ABOUT DR. SIGNE

Before Signe A. Dayhoff, Ph.D., M.A., M.Ed., became
the Educate To Connect Marketing Coach-Consultant, she was a Social Psychologist, with counseling training, doing publicity for the American Cancer Society and marketing consulting for solo professionals.

She taught Social Psychology at University of Massachusetts and Boston University and taught Organizational Behavior at Framingham State College.

Concurrently, she produced and hosted Continental Cablevision's alternative career development - personal marketing program, the Inside Track—in Wellesley, MA—for over four years. For it she received a Conti Award nomination.

After receiving her Ph.D. from Boston University,  she worked with Dr. Clara Mayo, body language expert,
and studied the image-management, communication, and interpersonal skills (people skills) necessary for career and professional success.

Based on her work on the use of mentoring and networking, she wrote her first book, Create Your Own Career Opportunities—a guide to dignified self-promotion through developing communication, networks, mentors, visibility, and credibility.

She also founded The Mentoring Network and TMN Associates to show professionals how to communicate,
present, and market themselves more confidently, strategically, and effectively to engineer their success.

Interestingly, she did these presentations while suffering from social anxiety disorder which filled her presentations and life with brain-numbing terror.

As she recovered, she established Effectiveness-Plus LLC to help others "transform social anxiety into social effectiveness" through alleviating performance- and self-presentation anxiety AND sharpening interpersonal communication skills, social intelligence, and personal marketing savvy. She is a certified administrator and interpreter of the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT) and certified Authentic Happiness Coach.

Her latest book, the new and improved 2nd Ed. of Diagonally-Parked in a Parallel Universe: Working Through Social Anxiety (2010), is the social phobic's bible and insider's scoop. Based upon years of research with sufferers and consultation with the pre-eminent clinical researchers in the field, it provides education, treatment, and life-rebuilding strategies.

Notables, such as Dr. Albert Ellis, have praised the book, the 1st Ed. of which was consistently ranked among the ten best-selling anxiety books on Amazon.com.

Author of four other books:
- How to Win in a Tough Job Market: Successful Strategies for Getting the Job You Want
- Create Your Own Career Opportunities
- Get the Job You Want: Successful Strategies For Selling Yourself in the Job Market
- Decision Making For Managers.

She also contributed to David Riklan's 101 Great Ways to Improve Your Life (Vol. 2) and Steven J. Bennett's Executive Chess: Creative Problem Solving By 45 of America's Top Business Leaders and Thinkers.

Her current home-study e-courses include Promote Myself? I'd Rather Eat Worms! 21 Simple Steps to Confidently Tooting Your Own Horn to Achieve Your Goals and How to Speak Without Fear Small Talk E-Course.

She has done research at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation, and Fairview State Hospital and presented nationally the findings of her own research on transforming social anxiety into social effectiveness, creating interpersonal effectiveness, and how to use mentors and networks for career success.

Because many solo practitioners, independent professionals, and entrepreneurs are uneasy with attracting clients—due largely to self-promotion reluctance, inadequate marketing strategies, and ineffective marketing conversion from lead to retained client—Dr. Signe created a soft-sell approach: her education-based relationship Marketing Communication Secrets Method.

Her coaching and consulting show private practice professionals how to reduce their discomfort, multiply clients and referrals inexpensively and with integrity. Her marketing system uses strategic relationship and communication tactics to create visibility, credibility, rapport, trust, liking, solid relationships to recruit, convert, and retain clients and gain their loyalty.

A member of International Coach Federation and International Association of Coaches, she coaches internationally. Dr. Signe has done marketing consultation and coaching with attorneys, psychotherapists, aesthetic practitioners, dentists, health consultants, clinical nutritionists, coaches, TV producers, management consultants, CEOs, software developers, and health care organizations, such as Health Action New Mexico.

To add to her offline marketing expertise, she has taken courses with Internet marketing experts such as Paul Hartunian, Alex Mandossian, Armand Morin, Jim Edwards, Trey Ryder, Dr. Jeff Herring, Drs. Judith Sherven and Jim Sniechowski, Robert Middleton, and Steve Harrison, and is a member of numerous educational marketing-networking groups, such as the Soft Sell Marketers Association.

Specializing in coaching and consulting with solo professionals, Dr. Signe has also consulted on enhancing physician-patient communication, created and directed public service health announcement videos for American Cancer Society, promoted the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Oncology Unit, designed promotions and public relations for dentists, provided seminars to genetic counselors and psychologists, and presented to medical students at University of New Mexico Health Sciences School.

She has also coached and consulted with individual lawyers as well as worked with the University of New Mexico Law School to pass an important health bill. The initial full-fledged bill she presented was on genetic health discrimination. She directed it to Dr. Robert Schwartz, Dean of the Health Law Department where a working group was formed to work on its passage. It was the "Genetic Information Privacy Bill" which proposed to prevent health insurers from continuing to refuse to insure (or reject an insured) due to the individual having a pre-disposition for a genetic disease.

Specifically, disease pre-disposition means only that the individual has a gene associated with a particular disease but has no clinical signs of having the disease ... and might never have the disease. The project took two years and "The "Genetic Information Privacy Act" was passed in 1997.

Interested in public perceptions of professionals and how they can be changed, she has conducted two national surveys to assess

(1) What factors lawyers and the public see as contributing to the increasing negative perception by the public of lawyers as a group,

(2) How this negative perception impacts lawyers' attracting and helping clients, and

(3) What individual lawyers can do to create positive, relationship-based, profitable visibility and credibility.

She is also currently surveying lawyers on what marketing strategies they have found to be particularly effective for their individual practices.

She has over 358 published newspaper, magazine, blog posts, and Internet articles and has been quoted in publications including Industry Week, Wall Street Journal, Boston Business Journal, Success, Executive Travel, Time Out New York, Shape, and Cosmopolitan.

Dr. Signe is also "kitty mom" to "unadoptable" rescued and special needs cats. She socializes rescued animals for the non-profit CARMA (Companion Animal Rescue and Medical Assistance in Corrales, NM) for adoption to loving homes.
